SR Afro-chicks and Breeders Limited owns and operates a broiler poultry farm in Kalungi-Nakaseeta Cell in Nakasongola District. In the last 5 years with big farms operational in various districts, SR has gained wide coverage of the poultry market at both regional and domestic levels, turning the brand into a household name, as well as benefiting the surrounding communities and the poultry industry as a whole. The overall objective of the project is to increase the production of DOCs to meet the current market demand.
Gissat was contracted to conduct an Environmental Compliance Audit to determine the compliance status of the project with environmental and health regulatory requirements and relevant permits and licenses. Furthermore, the audit was used to provide recommendations for changes or improvements to existing or proposed practices at the facility. The results of the audit are to be used to determine compliance with permits and approvals and assess the need for updates to policies, plans, and procedures for the operations.

Gissat carried out an environmental audit according to systematic procedures and focused on verifying if the mitigation and monitoring measures specified in the ESMP conform to the ongoing and planned arrangements.
The scope of the works included site intrusive investigations to test for contamination originating from the farm’s operations and identification of potential pathways and receptors for migrant contaminants.
The audit’s major aim was to provide recommendations for changes or improvements to existing or proposed practices at the facility.
