The present composition of the Archdiocese is made up of over 67 administrative territories including the applicant - Our Lady and St. Jude Parish Naggulu. The Parish is the center for St. Jude Thaddeus’ Devotion in Uganda. Pilgrims come from all Dioceses of Uganda and other neighbouring countries to pray for their needs or to give thanks for favours received through the intercession of the Saint. The most notable pilgrimages are made thrice annually in the months of March, July and October. Owing to this spiritual significance, the number of pilgrims has continuously grown and the current premises can no longer accommodate the increasing numbers.
This Environmental and social Impact Assessment (ESIA) was submitted in support of an application being made by the Kampala Archdiocese - Our Lady & St. Jude Parish Naggulu, for environmental permission for the proposed redevelopment of the existing church and St. Jude National Shrine within Naggulu Parish in Nakawa Division, Kampala.
The objective of the study was to carry out a systematic examination of the present environmental situation within the project area to determine whether the proposed project will have adverse environmental impacts to the surrounding area.

This Environmental and Social Impact Assessment was conducted to examine, analyze, and assess the proposed project with a view to ensure that environmental and social considerations were incorporated into the project during the preconstruction phase, construction and operations phase.
The ESIA was developed by a team of experts from Gissat, in accordance with the requirements of the National Environment Act No.5 of 2019. All statements and recommendations from the competent authorities including NEMA, Kampala Capital City Authority– were considered, as well as all departments, institutions, population, management, and others that might have been affected by the implementation of the project. The ESIA included an ecological analysis of the options, as well as a justification for the environmentally friendly nature of the option chosen and which were approved for further stages of project development and construction.
