Detailed description of project

Services:

Premier Distilleries Limited contracted Gissat to carry out an Environmental social and impact assessment. In view of the importance of the sugar sector to the national economy and in support of the National sugar policy, Premier Distilleries have developed a concept to establish a sugar mill and ancillary component. Using energy-saving diffuser technology for juice extraction, the proposed sugarcane mill will crash 1,500 tonnes of sugarcane per day which will culminate into 44,550 tonnes of refined sugar annually.

The proposed flexi-factory complex will translate PDL’s resolve to plan and execute the entire production as an integrated whole, for optimum flexibility, maximum efficiency, and, above all, minimal waste, notably by using one operation’s waste as another’s raw material.

The objective of the assessment was to carry out a systematic examination of the present environmental situation within the project area to determine whether the proposed project will have adverse environmental impacts to the surrounding area

The assessment was carried out within the framework of the guidelines and procedures spelt out in the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2020 and Environmental Impact Assessment guidelines 1997.

2.Field investigations which comprised of bio diversity surveys, environmental sampling and analysis, independent review of site conditions.

3.Project disclosure and stakeholder engagement.
