Premier Distilleries Limited is an established and experienced organization that provides various brands of spirits in form of gins, whiskies and rum in various packaging. Premier Distilleries Limited also established an in-house corrugation unit at Matugga, Uganda 2015 with the main purpose of the unit was to enhance the quality packaging of the products and to reduce the cost of production of their products in order to deliver high quality products to the end consumer

 

The core objective for which the factory was established was for the purpose of supplying Premier Distilleries Limited and the rest of the Balaji Group of Companies with premium quality packaging for their products.

 

Premier Distilleries Limited proposed to set up a corrugated board material factory as an extension of the storage and supply of the various commercial products produced at the different production facilities countrywide.

 

The assessment was undertaken in full compliance with the National Environment Act No. 5 of 2019 and The National Environment (Environmental and Social Assessment) Regulations, 2020.

The overall objective of the study was to carry out an assessment of installing and operating the corrugated broad and materials factory, to determine whether or not the installation and operation and associated activities will have any adverse impacts on the environment, taking into account biophysical, social, cultural, legal and economic considerations.

 

Gissat conducted an Environment and Social Impact Assessment to verify compliance with environmental laws, practices and regulations as well as identifying, analyzing and mitigating measures for negative impacts and enhancement measures for positive impacts to be undertaken during and after the implementation of the project.

 

To achieve these objectives, the assessment methodology used consisted of desktop studies to review literature on environmental impacts emanating from structural modification & machinery installation and operation of the proposed project.
