Patrick Van Pee is a Ugandan business entrepreneur, Investor and a property developer that has an interest in the tourism sector of the country where he put forth a proposal and sought for environmental and planning approval for the proposed development of Entebbe Forest Lodge on Plot 21, Block 435, Bugabo-Bukaya cell, Nalugala ward, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District.

The project entailed preparation of an Environment and Social Impact Assessment to the National Environment Management Authority for the proposed development of Entebbe Forest Lodge on Plot 21, Block 435, Bugabo-Bukaya Cell, Nalugala Ward, Katabi Town council in Wakiso District.

The ESIA process undertaken for the development of the Entebbe Forest Lodge was intended to create a small thriving and aesthetically pleasing exclusive lakeside eco-lodge that would serve the visitors’ needs while resulting in minimum impact to the natural environment.

The aim of the development was to implement an environmentally responsible design which sought to unify the buildings as proposed by the Local Works Design Team, into the rich natural ecology of the forested headland and lake side environment and to enrich the overall guest experience.

GISSAT was appointed to undertake the project ESIA to assess the development site with its associated infrastructural components to ensure that the project as proposed is in compliance with the National Environment Act, 2019.

The objective of the ESIA was to carry out a systematic examination of the present environmental situation within the project area to determine whether the proposed project would have adverse environmental impacts to the surrounding area.

The study included collection and analysis of environmental baseline data, identification of impacts (both negative and positive) analyses and evaluation of impacts, formulation of mitigation measures for significant negative impacts, analysis of project alternatives and development of environmental management and monitoring plans.

The methodology used consisted of desktop studies which reviewed literature on environmental impacts relevant to the construction of the forest lodge. Field investigations were undertaken to establish baselines physical, biological and socio-economic environmental aspects.
