Services offered

Banda Developments Limited (BDL) is a consortium of shareholders doing business together, majorly the development of a transport terminus and associated business park. The Banda Transport Terminus is designed as a multi-functional facility located to the north of Jinja-Kampala highway. The fundamental ethos of the development was to de-congest Kampala and reduce on traffic jam especially during peak hours by providing a city peripheral vehicle terminus and enhancing mobility as well as restoring order within the public transport sector.

 

BDL commissioned Gissat Environment Associates to conduct an Environmental Compliance Audit for their transport terminus.  The core objective of the audit was to ensure that the ongoing activities at the facility are in conformity with national policy aspirations towards securing sustainable development through compliance with the requirements of the National Environment Act (NEA 2019).

 

The ECA carried out focused on the following major aspects;

a)Discharges and emissions;

b)Traffic flow;

c)Incident resulting in environmental impact; and

d)Waste management, including types and quantities of waste generated.

 

The environmental audit was conducted basing on systematic procedures and focused on verification of mitigation and monitoring measures.  The assessment also relied on professional judgement of the auditors, objectivity and physical verification of the findings.  

The scope of work involved site intrusive investigations to test for contamination originating from the ongoing operations, identification for potential pathways and receptions for migrant contaminants.

Gissat team conducted the audit in 3 phases;

Pre-audit phase entailed;

i)Mobilizing team and assigning auditors;

ii)Reviewing of existing documents;

iii)Formulating audit criteria;

iv)Designing checklists; and

v)Preparing audit protocol

 

On-site phase involved:

i)Site reconnaissance visit and consultation with relevant site personnel;

ii)Conduct checklist audits in agreed functional areas;

iii)De-briefing of site representatives;

iv)Follow up meetings with ESMP implementing team; and

v)Preparing a short progress report to the client and data analysis.

 

Post-audit phase involved:

i)Team meetings to discuss audit findings and recommendations;

ii)Data analysis and report writing; and

iii)Final report after comments from operator.
